No Boundaries State of the Arts event

On 25 and 26 February the No Boundaries State of the Arts event took place in Bristol and York, supported by Arts Council England and the British Council. Recordings of the conference speeches are available to watch here. We were particularly interested to watch Jude Kelly’s speech on cultural activism, how it applies to children, and what our responsibilities are to ourselves and young people.  You can also see the visual notes of the event here

 

Helen Mirren at the Baftas 2014 – only rich kids can go in to acting

The BAFTAs took place on 16 February with Dame Helen Mirren receiving a BAFTA Fellowship. She took the opportunity to highlight the barriers now facing children from poorer backgrounds who are discouraged from progessing in to Arts careers because of the cost. Prime Minster's consultation on Holocaust Education

Involved in Holocaust education? The Prime Minster's Holocaust Commission is holding a consultation on the need for a future permanent memorial to the Holocaust as well as future educational resources.

The Commission is asking for written evidence. From this evidence two expert groups focusing on education and commemoration will review current provision and identify gaps and opportunities for the future. Deadline for submissions is 30 May. Why Study Arts?

CLA was pleased to present at the Curious Minds Artsmark celebration event on 11 February and to have prepared a prezi about some of the different arguments and evidence for studying arts subjects. If you would like to take a look, and even it use with colleagues, the prezi can be seen and downloaded here.  

 

Artsbox – Arts Award

Artsbox, the new online tool for Arts Award portfolios, has been launched.

Artsbox enables children and young people working towards an Arts Award to create an online portfolio and to share their creative work and experiences. It’s free to use and even has a linked app. Find out more here.
